What Is Demonology?

Demonology is the study of demons or beliefs about demons, especially the methods used to summon and control them. It’s a complex field that intersects with various disciplines including theology, mythology, psychology, and cultural studies, among others. Historically, demonology has been a significant aspect of religious studies, particularly within Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, where demons are often considered as spiritual beings who may be malevolent and opposed to God and humanity.

In Christianity, demonology is linked to the practices of exorcism, the act of casting out demons from individuals believed to be possessed. The Bible contains references to Jesus performing exorcisms, which has influenced Christian beliefs and practices regarding demons and evil spirits.

For example, in Islamic tradition, jinn are supernatural beings created from smokeless fire, and some of them are considered evil, similar to demons in Christian theology.
